When I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2006 my testosterone level was 219. This is a clear case of hypogonadism. A 44 year old man should be 500, 600, 700 and not 219. After radical prostatectomy, I almost immediately went on hormonal therapy and the result was my T levels dipped to as low as 20. Once I stopped HT after 28 months the T level went as high as 275. I thought it was higher but it wasn't. The highest T level I have ever had measured was 275 and that is below the 300 low normal.
A lot of controversy surrounds testosterone replacement therapy for a guy diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. But after 7 years of clean PSA's we decided to give it a go. I started last Thursday using Axiron in 60mg doses. This is a topical solution that is applied to the axilla otherwise know as the arm pits. The results? In just 6 days my energy has been as high as I can recall. I feel generally very good. Now I know it's early on in this therapy, it is said the first month will get me more to normal levels but I am feeling it now.
I never knew why I had low T levels, nor do I know how long I suffered from hypogonadism. My brother had it as well and he swears that replacement therapy changed his life. I have to agree. I feel the best I have felt during all of my days after being diagnosed with PCa. And as long as the T levels stay up and the PSA stays down, I'm good with it.
I hope this helps anyone who needs replacement therapy. I finally get it now and I will always understand what it is like to have low T levels. Because I thought that this was a taboo move for a stage 3B guy I had learned to live with the fatigue, low sex drive, etc. I can honestly say that on Thursday I believe that my life changed for the better.
