February is American Heart month...a time when many men and women are encouraged to learn more about heart disease and it's prevention (mostly through lifestyle changes). Appropriately, the PCAF "Exercise Challenge" is also held in Feburary to encourage men with PC to get at least 30-minutes of exercise five days per week or more.
In my own case, my prostate cancer diagnosis served as a "wake-up call" to improve my diet and exercise habits. Prostate cancer is among the most common, least lethal of all cancers, generating a very large pool of cancer survivors who will eventually die of something else.
Did a diagnosis of prostate cancer serve as a "wake-up call" for you in any way?
(Poll results are visable after you vote.)

Wake up call-definite yes . I changed all my life . I lost 80+ lbs weight with diet changes and realized more to life than work. Became much closer and appreciative of my wife , kids, and grand children. Dx at age 63 , now am 65. , James

Wow, James...you dropped 80 pounds!! That's great. I thought I was doing well with holding my 10-15 pound loss over the course of nearly 5-years since diagnosis. I'm still a bit above the BMI "normal weight" range for my height, but I can definitely feel the positive change from losing the 10-15. My diet changed significantly to avoid items which are known/believed to be "cancer foods" and take in more things that are "cancer fighters."
As of today, the poll results are 5:1 favoring those for whom PC was a "wake-up call.
Elsewhere today I saw a PC survivor post that "He (his doctor) reminded me that if I had died of cardiac failure (which I was headed to when I first went to him in 2000) I wouldn't be worried about PCa today." I thought this comment really highlighted the importance of "the PC wake-up call." There's a very large pool of PC survivors who will eventually die of something else.

I had a moderately healthy life style before diagnosis. Went to the gym 2 or three times a week and focused on cholesterol control. After diagnosis (and the Harvard Exercise study) I kicked things up a notch. Increased gym to 5 or 6 days a week and got very serious with my diet. Switched to a Mediterranean diet. A lot of fruit and veggies and seafood. Negligible amounts of red meat and dairy. Who knows, it might be working for me. I'm in good health and should be able to handle an early start to ADT3 if my PSA is indeed starting to increase.
