From the AP wire at Fox: Cancer Death Rates decline
This is taken from ACS Statistics for 2014. This article makes the following key points: - Over the last two decades, there has been a drop of about 20% in cancer mortality rates.
- The largest demographic is in middle aged black males. The rate of decrease is as high as 55%
- The incidence of cancer is about the same over the same period.
- Screening and better imaging are the likely reasons for the decrease but it is not known to what extent better treatment therapies have played a role.
- Prevention is the key moving forward. (According to ASCO 30% of all cancer are preventable through lifestyle changes)
