So in a separate discussion Tony Crispino had suggested that, "There should be Herbert/Emerson award for courage in standing up publicly against prostate cancer. For going well beyond themselves to help us all." Then he had the nerve to suggest that Prostate Cancer International and the PCAF might want to do something about it together!
So ... I have a slightly different suggestion, which is that we work out how to develop a very simple on-line Prostate Cancer Advocacy "Hall on Fame". I am prepared to maintain this. The question that needs to be addressed is what qualifies individuals for membership.
The advantage of such a "Hall of Fame" is that it would allow us to "elect" members who have already passed away ... Some pretty obvious ones include Terry Herbert and David Emerson, but also earlier advocates such as Harry Pinchot of PCRI and Lloyd Ney (the founder of PAACT) and (perhaps) even some distinctly non-self-serving physicians such as William Cooner, who taught his peers to use TRUS as a method to be able to see where the heck they were putting those biopsy needles. Some currently living candidates certainly include Michael Milken, Chuck Maack, Ralph Valle, and I am sure some of you have other ideas too.
I would also want to see if I can get the Prostate Cancer Roundtable to endorse this idea.
My basic belief is that such an on-line Hall of Fame should contain: a bio about the individual; a summary of why they qualified for election; links to any other materials that they have developed or left behind them on line; a link to any organization or system that they founded or helped to found; and a link to any organization that we KNOW they would want to continue helping to fund in their honor.
Any comments, thoughts?
Mike
