I just registered about an hour ago. Been looking around since then as this is my first time on the site.
At present I am 65 years old, I say at present because I will turn 66 in August.
I was diagnosed in June 2009. My biopsy showed Gleason 7 (3+4) in 4 out of 12 cores. I had daVinci surgery in September 2009 and when the resulting post op PSA tests ranged from .4 to .67, I began SRT in December 2009. I received 70Gy over 7 weeks, 35 treatments.
My post radiation PSA continued to climb. In the years following, I had more tests and scans than most people. For a year I was in a diagnostic clinical trial at the NIH/NCI. I received 4 F18 Sodium Fluoride Scans in 12 months. In the following years my PSA continued to climb, but we could never find any evidence of mets.
Finally in January 2014 scans showed the involvement of a couple of lymph nodes. At this point my PSA was 92.50.
In February 2014 I enrolled in a clinical trial that is comparing Lupron/Casodex against Lupron/TAK700. I was selected to the TAK700 arm of the trial. The first 3 months PSA tests were 20.5, 9.7 and 8.0. I have not had a PSA test since May. I am due to meet with my Oncologist August 15th, at which time they will do full blood work, including PSA and Testosterone. I will also have a Dexa bone density scan and my third 3 month Lupron shot.
To date I have been really lucky with the side effects of the drugs. I have very few hot flashes, they are not really hot flashes, more like just a feeling of warmth for a few minutes. I have not experienced any weight gain. My mental state is great and I show no signs of Lupron brain fog. I still have libido, although diminished somewhat and I still have the ability to function occasionally.
Life is good and great and I am anxious to see where my PSA is now.
That about covers it. This site looks to be one that I will frequent often and maybe in some small way I can be a contributor.
