Starting in 2002 the Southwest Oncology Group, for which I am a member, performed the well known SELECT trial. Or actually the Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer prevention trial. Both selenium and vitamin E failed terribly at preventing prostate cancer in high doses and in fact the trial proved that high grade cancer was 25% more likely if you take high doses of these supplements. Well today, May 1 2014 here are the latest results. SELECT timeline as of May 2012
SELECT Main Poster Board as of May 2014Note: the is still ongoing and the numbers get more and more negative with time. Our message at SWOG is ~ If yu are taking supplements for prostate cancer "health" LOOK at the labeling. If they contain high doses of either stop taking it.
