Welcome Bob!!! Better late than never...that's absolutely the spirit we are looking for! And this mantra is especially true with lifestyle changes...one can help to "stack the odds in your favor" instead of stacking the odds against yourself by commiting to a few simple changes. Change is difficult! But change in lifestyles can enrich the quality of one's life and extend the length of life. Keep it up, Bob, and thanks for joining Southern Comfort and me!
Today is Tuesday, Feb 25, and it is the 4th day of the 4th week of the month long "Exercise Challenge." This morning I had my annual blood draw (for my physical, and my PSA test), so I was fasting for the morning (for the CBC, not the PSA). So, I didn't want to exercise too rigorously on an empty stomach, but I did a 30-minute online yoga class. We subscribe to yogoglo.com, which allows one to choose from many different durations, levels, instructors, focus areas, etc. This was my 3rd day of exercise this week.
Joke of the day:
"Toronto Mayor Rob Ford says he's not going anywhere, even after his recent crack scandal. He said he hopes to run for prime minister of Canada one day. When asked what party he'd choose, he said, 'Why choose one? I usually hit, like, five parties a night.'" –Jimmy Fallon

Week 4, #4: 30 minute bike ride this afternoon. I enjoyed riding in Portland so much that I calibrated the shifter on my Linus bike, here at home, and went for a ride this afternoon.

The jokes of the day are making me laugh with a lot of energy. I am feeling more energy than I have in years due to testosterone therapy. I am not doing vigorous work out yet but that's probably a good thing. But I have been in the yard a whole bunch working on the spring clean and installing a new (used) hot tub my friend gave me. Ruth has mentioned that she is very pleased with my energy levels. I guess that means I am catching up on the Honeydo list. I rode my bike around the block yesterday.

Tony, Good for you. I am certainly enjoying the return of my testosterone. I found that exercise was probably the top thing that helped me cope with ADT for 3 years. SC

Great job, everyone...keep it up! Keep your momentum going. The PCAF "Exercise Challenge" will end soon, but for all the reasons you and I have shared here, I hope you will keep going...
Today is Wednesday, February 26, and it is the 5th day of Week #4 of the "Challenge," and today was my 4th day of exercising at least 30 minutes this week. Today, at home in my living room before work, I followed a BOSU workout video which I have in my library. Even if you don't know what a BOSU is, you've probably seen one...it is an inflatable half dome; one side flat, the other soft/inflated (every one I've seen is blue in color). The 30-minute video consists of many cross-training exercises: aerobics, core, back, balance, etc. It certainly got my heart pumping.
Speaking of heart pumping, I have been taking my blood pressure regularly over the past few weeks in preparation for my upcoming annual physical next week. (I mentioned yesterday that I had my blood draw for both PSA and CBC, complete blood counts; I have the blood drawn before the appointment with the internist so that we can talk about the CBC results.) Anyhow, with 18 data points, my average BP in the last few weeks has been 125/77. My father died at age 50 of a massive heart attack, so I have been far more worried about heart disease affecting my longevity than PC or anything else. I'm pretty pleased with my BP, although I should add that I've been medicated for about 10-years to help keep it down...the meds are working!
Joke of the day; this one came from the first night of Seth Meyers' new late night show (which was a little shaky, but I hope improves with time...he's such a great comedian):
“Toronto Mayor Rob Ford walked into a fire hydrant injuring his groin. That’s saying something when that’s the least embarrassing thing he’s done all year.” -- Seth Meyers

The month is over! This is the 7th day of the 4th week, and the month-long PCAF "Excercise Challenge" is over!
Just about everyone on the planet who knows a thing or two about exercise says it's best to get at least 30-minutes a day for at least 5-days per week...and that's exactly what the "Challenge" was. The benefits are clear, and the costs are not so much...it doesn't take a fancy gym membership or a lot of equipment. There is a right level of exercise for everyone, and simple things like a daily walk around thee block might be right for you...the key is to get up and do it!
So thanks for the camradarie in joining the "Challenge!" Studies show that those who exercise with a buddy are more likely to stick with it and not poop-out. I hope/plan to stick with it now that the month is over...I hope you will too! Exercise helps men with PC to "stack the odds in their favor," and I believe that is something we all want!
I didn't exercise yesterday because I flew to California with my son early in the morning, but today I rode a stationary bike in the hotel gym for 35 minutes. I was going to do more, but my daughter walked by on her way to the breakfast room so I joined her. My son and I are here to watch her play in an intercollegiate water polo tournament, which is during her spring break (she goes to an east coast school).
Joke of the day: "President Obama's approval rating is down to 39 percent. And Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who admitted to smoking crack cocaine, went up to 49 percent. How does this make Obama feel? He'd be better off smoking crack than passing Obamacare." –Jon Stewart

hahaha...we shall see...! Tuscan would be fine.
I just had my annual physical last month and was down 3 lbs from last year. I was pleased when the doctor told me that the typical middle-aged person tends to go up 3 lbs every year rather than down.
BTW, your comment remineded me that you should add your upcoming meetings to the PCAF calendar...

I purchased a Polar Loop and it keeps track of my heart rate and calories burned (supposedly). It motivates me to push through days that I just don't want to do it.
Thanks Paul
